ABOUT TURKISH PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION
Turkish Psychological Association is established on the date of 25.10.1976 with the name of “Psychological Association”. The name of association is changed as “Turkish Psychological Association” on the date of 6.7.1991.
TPA has got approximately 4300 members all over the country. TPA is the only professional organization who represents scientific and professional psychology in Turkey. TPA’s headquarter is located in Ankara. On the other hand there are branches in, İstanbul, İzmir, Bursa and Mersin, agencies in 20 cities in the country and in 2 other countries. TPA has won the prestigious status of “Working for the Benefit of Public Association” in 1997.
ESTABLISHMENT OBJECTIVES OF TPA

Providing help to psychologists and psychology organizations to reach contemporary level.
- Protecting the professional rights of Psychologists and solving their problems in Turkey.
- Facilitating union, unity and cooperation between Psychologists in Turkey.
- Facilitating the contribution of psychology science to the public benefit.
- Identifying the ethical standards for the profession and maintaining these standards in the highest level.
WORKING FIELDS AND METHODS OF TPA

Scientific activities:
- Professional and scientific meetings, national and international congresses:
Within this scope, National Congress of Psychologyand Işık Savaşır Symposium of Clinical Psychologyare arranged bi-yearly.
- Publishing book and periodicals:
As periodicals Turkish Journal of Psychology,Turkish Psychology Writingsand Turkish Psychology Bulletinare published bi-yearly.
- Encouraging the members to conduct research in the various fields of psychology and facilitating the research process.
- Determining general principles for psychological testing and evaluations and announcing these principles to members and public.
- Making joint activities with the associations in or out of the country about scientific, cultural and social issues.
- Activities for public: Arranging conferences or short and long term programs for the public welfare.

Professional activities:
- Helping the members to find solution of their professional problems.
- Making contact with the professional, private and government agencies to carry out and practice every kind of legislation and curriculum for the development of Psychologist as a profession.
- Arranging educational programs and courses to update the knowledge of the members.
- Assembling commissions with professional people to certify their members for which professional practice and what level they are qualified.
- Assembling commissions with professional members in relevant issues for the purpose of counseling about practices of psychology to government and private agencies.
- Providing continuously studies to raise quality of psychology services which is offered to the community, assembling professional groups within the scope of association for this purpose.

AWARDS
YOUNG PSYCHOLOGISTS RESEARCH AWARDS
TPA İzmir Branch organizes research awards since 2004 for the purpose of encouraging Young Psychologists and Psychology Students to research, for the undergraduate students in Turkey except preparatory class students, and young psychologists who have been completed five years in the profession.
IŞIK SAVAŞIR ENCOURAGEMENT AWARD OF CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY RESEARCH
Işık Savaşır Encouragement Award of Clinical Psychology Research is given to an original research which makes a significant contribution in terms of methods or application of clinical psychology.
